The Company retains a 100% interest and operates three large Production Licences covering an area nearly 10,000 square km. Work undertaken to date includes 2D and 3D seismic surveys and a successful drilling campaign.

In 2012 the Company made a significant gas condensate discovery (Darwin) with its first exploration well. Demonstrating a proven petroleum system, Borders & Southern's acreage surrounding the discovery contains numerous low risk, high impact prospects.

General overview

Borders & Southern holds a 100% equity interest and operatorship in three Production Licences in the Falkland Islands covering an area of nearly 10,000 square kilometres. The licences are located approximately 150 km south-east of the Islands.

Technical summary

Borders & Southern’s acreage is located in the South Falkland Basin, a frontier basin extending to the south and east of the Falkland Islands. Six wells have been drilled in the basin. In 2012 Borders & Southern made the first significant hydrocarbon discovery with exploration well 61/17-1.

Darwin discovery

Darwin comprises two adjacent tilted fault blocks, Darwin East and Darwin West. The discovery well is situated on Darwin East. A clear flat spot and amplitude conformance to structure help define the hydrocarbon charged reservoir.
